Frequently Asked Questions
How often are the exchange rates updated?
Rates are updated every two hours from 8 AM to 5 PM Sri Lanka time on banking days (Monday–Friday). Each card shows the exact time of the most recent update from that bank.
Which Sri Lankan banks are included?
We compare rates from all major licensed commercial banks including Commercial Bank, HNB, Sampath Bank, Bank of Ceylon, NSB, People's Bank, Standard Chartered, Seylan Bank, DFCC, Amana Bank, and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) indicative rates.
Are these TT rates or cash rates?
All displayed rates are Telegraphic Transfer (TT) rates — the standard interbank rates used for wire transfers and remittances. Cash counter rates at the branch may differ slightly.
How do I find the best exchange rate?
The green "Best" badge and hero card at the top always show the single best rate available. Toggle between "I Sell" (bank buys) and "I Buy" (bank sells) to match your transaction. For selling foreign currency, you want the highest rate; for buying, the lowest.
Can I see historical rate trends?
Yes. Each bank has a dedicated history page (e.g. /sampath-bank/history) with a 30-day interactive chart and a day-over-day change table showing ▲ or ▼ movements.
How accurate are the rates?
Rates are scraped directly from official bank websites. Timestamps on each card show exactly when the data was last fetched. Always confirm the rate at the branch before transacting, as banks can update rates intraday.
Why is a rate shown as N/A?
N/A means the bank either does not offer that currency pair or has not published a rate for it today. Try a different bank or contact the branch directly.
